~Pendle Hill~

6th May 2010

It's been about three weeks since my last ascent of Pendle Hill. Not a great evening weatherwise, but nonetheless I voted for a good walk as oppose to putting my feet up in front of the tv.

Polling Station

Barley Village Hall

I parked in Barley car park and elected to make my way up Ogden Clough past the reservoirs.

Lower Ogden

Lower Ogden Reservoir

Upper Ogden

Upper Ogden Reservoir

The route up past the reservoirs is usually a popular one. The Upper was half empty, there was no one else about.

Ogden Clough

Ogden Clough

Four small screws have been sunk into one flattish rock in the bed of the stream. I've seen these before many years ago, they are extremely remote and off the path. What are their purpose? Look at the photo on the right and you may just about to see the screw heads.

Wheatear

Wheatear?

I tend to use the RSPB Bird Identifier, a modern version of The Observer's Book of Birds, I suppose. I walked to the top of the clough and then along the flagstone path to the summit.

Summit of Pendle

The Summit

The summit area was in light mist and rather cool in the NE breeze. Still no one about.

Misty View

Black Moss and Lower Ogden Reservoirs

As I started my descent, I passed a party of about 20 youngsters and a few adults, some sort of club outing.

Pendle House

Pendleside House

It's election day, I'm on the fence and in the photo above, the greens are out in force.

Barley Chapel

Barley Chapel

This is a "Primitive Methodist Church", the last one of these I found was in Settle.

Swings

The Outcome?

There could be a swing to the left or a swing to the right. I am now back in Barley and close to the end of the walk.

Pendle Sunset

Pendle Sunset

As I drove away, I looked back and took this photo from close to Newchurch-In-Pendle. Then, much closer to home I pulled over and took the photo below.
